Chihuahua Care

If you feel like you want to have a Chihuahua in your house, you must be well familiar with the basics of Chihuahua Care. Chihuahuas are very fragile and small dogs, and it takes quite a bit of experience and knowledge to properly handle such a dog. These dogs thrive on human attention, and they can hardly imagine their lives without their loved ones. The Chihuahua is one of the smallest dog on earth, its wither height averaging 6-9 inches, and body weight not exceeding 2-6 pounds.

Chihuahuas can be of two types: the long-coated and the smooth-coated, and both types can occur within the same litter. The coat can come in a variety of colors, such as tan, fawn, black-and-tan, chocolate, grey, blue (rare), white, as well as various many-colored patterns. Since recently, Merle Chihuahuas are not admitted to breeding projects, because they are prone to genetic abnormalities. Short-coated Chihuahuas require occasional grooming, while long-coated dogs need to be groomed on a daily basis. If you would like to know more about Chihuahua Care, there is tons of information available online, so you can use various dog breed information resources.

Chihuahuas are very cute and gentle dogs, and they show great devotion and love of their owners. Despite their diminutive size, Chihuahuas are active and playful. Please, don’t think of a small sized-dog as of one to be locked inside a small room! Chihuahuas appreciate daily walks and other open air activities. They enjoy active game, and they should have a chance to walk off lead, but safely away from busy roads or crowded places. It should be noted that Chihuahuas are very sensitive to cold, so they should not be walked on rainy and windy days. Some Chihuahua Care resources suggest dressing Chihuahuas in special tiny dog coats, so that they are less likely to chill.

Chihuahuas are naturally protective around their loved ones, and hence they can be a little reserved with strangers. Not infrequently, when there are guests in the house, they follow their owners around and show signs of anxiety and agitation. These dogs can be short with children, so breeders do not recommend these dogs for families with young children. Because they are extremely fragile and small, owners should take care not to step on their dogs, as they often get under their feet. These dogs are very sensitive to physical impact, and even a slight push or a fall may result in a serious injury. Chihuahua Care resources specify a number of points for Chihuahua owners to remember, which can help Chihuahua owners avoid sad incidents, in which this tiny dog may easily get in a household.
